Home design can be summed up as a warm and inviting with touches of traditional or vintage decor. As a real estate agent, I tour many homes and watch the reaction of many buyers as they walk through spaces. Nearly everyone will tell me they’d prefer to have an “updated” home and are willing to pay more for it. As I’ve been in many show homes, new construction, and remodeled homes, here are the trends I’ve noticed over the last few months that will carry us through 2026.
1. Traditional vibe is making a comeback
This is showing up in color, furniture and art. Think of using it as accents while keeping the rest of the room modern.
2. Muted saturated neutral colors
Green, plum (think mauve!), soft beige and dark brown are all front and center to make spaces feel so cozy. Consider color drenching a room to make a statement. If you're planning to sell your home within the next 2 years, go with soft beige to keep it very neutral!
3. Warm wood cabinets and furniture
Medium and dark stained wood cabinets are the go-to for kitchens and baths.
4. Combine your metals
Brass and gold are still popular choices for cabinet hardware and lighting, but try combining it with polished nickel and gunmetal. Matte black has taken a back seat and brushed nickel is nowhere to be found.
5. Detailed trim and woodwork
Another nod to tradition with more ornate baseboards, door trim, and wall panels. We are moving away from the simple, contemporary styles.
If you’re ready to remodel, keep these trends in mind to look current and appealing. As I always say, keep your home updated while you’re living in it!
